The new album is going to release in autumn and an official announcement will be made in April. Be patient my friends.....I am sure it will be worth waiting for the new Enigma III. Trust Michael Cretu, our favourite "second to none" musician/composer!!!!!! In the meantime, I'll like to ask some information about the group "Moti Special" where Michael Cretu sings, composes, and produces. Being a huge and an avid Michael Cretu fan, I am thinking about collecting albums of Moti Special. Anyone heard of Moti Special music or albums??? Which album is the best??? How does the music sounds like??? Like Sandra muisc??? I am in desperate search for Moti Special music.....hoping to hear the magic and "exclusive touch" of Michael Cretu's music. I've got the LP "Motivation", and some (maxi-)singles. They only made one LP with MC, but there's also another album by Moti Special, but Michael Cretu is not involved with that one, maybe it's a whole other group (I've seen the cd once, but none of the names of people sounded familiar to me) The music is very much like Cretu's solo albums, and the album by Cretu + Thiers. "Motivation" is in my opinion a very good album. ---------- Robin Wessels ---------- mail : r.wessels@student.utwente.nl home : http://huizen.dds.nl/~robin-w/home.htm the Chante Moore homepage : http://huizen.dds.nl/~robin-w/chante/home.htm ___________________________________ NEW : The Karyn White discography, http://huizen.dds.nl/~robin-w/karyn/disco.htm ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 27 Jan 1996 10:51:18 -0500 From: "Jeffrey, James Denis" Subject: "Moti Special" To: Enigma@yoyo.cc.monash.edu.au At 01:44 PM 11/10/96 +0100, you wrote: I am in desperate search for Moti Special music.....hoping to hear the magic and >"exclusive touch" of Michael Cretu's music. > >Ye Min, I have not heard of Moti Special but would like more information if you have found any. Girls go crazy", "Cold days, hot nights", "Don't be so shy". In the project "Moti Special", Michael Cretu worked with Manfred Thiers, Nils Tuxen, Dickie Tarrach. I have never heard the album "Motivation" myself but our friend Robin Wessels said in his post that it is a very good album. It is a extremely rare CD and I am looking for it in Germany. I think that the only place you can still find that rare album..... The other CDs that I am also desperately searching are "Moon, Light and Flowers"(1979) and "The Invisible Man" by Michael Cretu(1985) and also "Belle Epoque" by Cretu and Thiers(1988). I think "The Invisible Man" and "Moon, Light and Flowers" are Michael's solo albums. I personally think it's impossible to find the album "Moon, Light and Flowers" anymore because it's too old. But "The Invisible Man" and "Belle Epoque" are still around. I heard from a friend that the album "Belle Epoque" is a very beautiful album with the hit "When Love is the missing word". All of these albums are composed and produced by Michael Cretu himself..... Michael also released a number of singles such as "Gambit", "School's out" which don't appeared in any albums. He made a number of albums and singles in German(not English) too. What I like in Michael Cretu's music is that it is different and has a "special touch". He has his own style which is, no need to say, excellent and exquisite.... In fact, it does not really matter if I find these rare CDs or not because I have all Enigma and Sandra albums and singles. And they are enough to convince me that Michael Cretu is one of my favourite musicians/composers of all time!!!!! Michael is really "second to none" when it comes to music........... Like many of us, I was hooked on Enigma the first day their initial album was released in 1990. Other types of groups I listen to include Deep Forest, B-Tribe and Delerium. I also listen to a little bit of Seal and Loreena McKennitt. I'm also from Toronto, Ontario, and am currently studying Business in university. Other than the above mentioned, I pretty much live a relatively normal life. My personal favourite Enigma song is "Return to Innocence", the long and alive version. By the way, has anybody out there heard of a group called "Peyote"? A few years ago, they came out with an amazing song called "Shaman's Call" that I found truly similar to Enigma's older album. I've been trying to find more of their stuff without any luck at all. Was this song the only one they ever released? I wouldn't imagine that it is. I can't wait for the release of Enigma III, as I have the first two albums already, as well as the LP's of "Return to Innoncence" and "Carly's Song". Anyways, just thought I'd introduce myself. I saw it once on MTV and loved it. I never heard them again until 1993 when I was given MCMXC ad. Besides Enigma, I love Dead Can Dance, NIN, Enya, Counting Crows, Blues Traveler, music from the Cirque Du Soleil (HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!), Hootie and the Blowfish (will they last?), and the Doors. As fort the rest of my life, I'm anxiously awaiting college acceptance letters, performing in Grease, and getting ready to direct my first production. That's all for now. For those of you searching for similar music to Enigma, here are some that I found i could listen to over & over: I'm sure you're all familiar with Deep Forest, Delerium's Semantic Spaces is also good, Mood Food - a definite, Dead Can Dance, William Orbit's Strange Cargo III (specially "Water from a Vine Leaf") - another good album, Loop Guru (more Middle Eastern style like Deep Forest's "Boheme" album), not similar to Enigma but also worth listening to are Vangelis & Tangerine Dream. I got the tip for Delerium somewhere here in the Net while doing a search for ENIGMA. THe person also recommended Culture Beat's "Serenity" (WARNING) DO NOT get it. After spending $15, I found out it's a Hip-Hop, Dance Club, Rap, Techno kind of music. Only the first song hints to music like Enigma (and it only lasted less than a minute I think). I have been on/in the Digest for about a month or so....and stated that I have the first two "Enigma's" and am anxiously awaiting the one slated for later this year...Thanks again Michael Cretu, Sandra and all who keep this digest/fanlcub/newsbunch hummin with positive and info about finding, listening, and all that goes with that.... I am 42, my Fine Young Lady (also referred to as, Wife) is (shhhh now) 36....I work as a Truck Driver Equipment operator in our area and my YL works as a Motel Maid and is a sorter in a Mail Room at a nearbye data entry center. We have been looking at some of the suggestions you all have offered and have been planning to try some of them.....To jkalmes......thanks a bunch for the url on Yello ....and now I know I like them....at least for the "OHH YEAHH"....maybe you can tell me if/and which cd that would be available on.....that is one I have been hoping to "land" on for quite some time. tnt \\//. Thanks for making the effort and letting us Enigmites...know. As for the third album, one of the reasons for the Love of the first album was it's mysterious yet deeply compelling, thought provoking sounds and rythyms. The second album, although not as mysterious perhaps, was still very rythmic in it's construction and still very enjoyable with good depth. I agree the second album didn't seem to have quite the same "appearance" as the first album, but I am sure that Michael Cretu intended it to be quite different, yet keep a common "Enigmatic" thread throughout. I think it a good idea that Michael, whichever direction he goes with the third album, keeps the "root" of it in the same "soil" as the others.....The first album being the reason for my Love of the "Enigma"..Thank you Michael. My first exposure to Enigma was the short play on the radio and an ad that I had seen in an old Playboy magazine. One CD album order I placed with our local distributer I will never regret. ______________ tnt \\//. (Live Long And Prosper)_____ tnt \\//. Jon Anderson was the lead singer with YES, the guy with the very unique voice. He also worked extensively with Vangelis on his recordings. Jon is probably better known to some of us older list members although I feel his musical style was one of the predecesors to music such as Enigma's. I went through my CD's and albums and found a few of his records and those he worked on with Vangelis. 1979 Jon and Vangelis Short Stories * This album also came with a 12" single which included a song called "I'll Find My Way Home". b-tribe used this in their song "You Won't See Me Cry" on their 1993 CD =A1Fiesta Fatale!. 1981 Jon and Vangelis The Friends of Mr. Cairo **Excellent album and song. 1994 Jon Anderson Change We Must **Undecided how I feel about this new album. Lots of orchestration! These are the only ones I could find although I know there are more. IMHO Jon's music is still excellant. Hope this sheds some light on Jon Anderson for you. I had heard Sadness on the radio but I hadn't thought much of how good the whole album might be. After I bought it and listened to it 4 times in one night I was hooked. I then went out and bought everything I could find, this time on CD. I remember hearing The Eyes of Truth on a local radio station before The Cross of Changes came out. I would wait every night until the release of the album to hear the song even though I had already recorded it on tape. I wanted to find out more about the new release. I also remember skipping school to buy the second album when it came out. Including Enigma I also like Depeche Mode. I know this won't surprise many people. These two artists are about the only one's that I COLLECT from. I also listen to Deep Forest and B-tribe but not as wholeheartedly as Enigma. However, I am a huge fan of musical theater. For example, Miss Saigon, Les Miserables, Phantom of the Opera, etc. Right now I have a job at a store stockroom. It's not fun but it helps me to have money for things like this. In my spare time I write songs and play the piano. I love to sing also. I hope to one day have something important musically happen to me. I have bought the Cross of Changes piano book and play killer versions of Dreams of the Dolphins and The Cross of Changes. I would like to hear from any fans who have the same interests as me. I don't meet very many Enigma fans which is strange considering how good their music is. It would be nice to correspond with people who like them as well. We can make the wait until ENIGMA III a shorter wait if we wait and talk together. I would like to thank everybody for the chance to be a new member. It is very exciting to me. I hope to hear from some of you and to have some of my questions answered as well. If you don't mind I would like to ask my first questions now.... Who is sampled in the Eyes of Truth when you hear the female voice saying something that sounds like "The thought of me...." Is it madonna? Also who is the male voice saying, "These people don't have their clothes on here...." I would appreciate whoever can clear this up for me. Thank you again. ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 24 Jan 96 03:05:05 PST From: an412458@anon.penet.fi Subject: hello To: Enigma@yoyo.cc.monash.edu.au Hi, Paula! :) It was nice to get your note in my mailbox. To: Enigma@yoyo.cc.monash.edu.au Hi Karen and all others, I personally believe that the theme "Angels" will do the job for Enigma III. It is true that Enigma has played with "Heavenly motif"(as you call it) in the past albums. But nothing directly with the aspect of "Angels". The theme "Angels" can be dark and mysterious too. For example take the instance of Angel "Lucifer". And the whole album can be played in the "Angels" atmosphere. Using a lot of instruments like harps, strings, waves, and many others. Even the lyrics can be "Archaic" language such as "Thou shall be done by thee"....etc. I am for the theme "Angels"!!! It is very beautiful, spiritual, magical but at the same time it can be dark, mysterious and scary. On the other hand, I agree that there are better themes for Enigma III. But using African Chants, I am not for it. Mainly because Deep Forest used that theme for their first album. And I personally don't think Michael will repeat someone else creativity. Moreover, there are a lot of groups around who are using different ethnic chants. Using again ethnic chants for Enigma III would simply not do the job. This time Michael Cretu has to really create and innovate new style. I also mentioned about the theme "Unknown journey into the world of souls and spirits" in my previous posts. "Ghosts" can be a good one too, maybe a little too dark. Someone else on EML also mention about "Voodo" theme. Whatever theme Michael uses, one thing is for sure. The new album must be new, mysterious, dark, magical, and beautiful. I personally believe that Enigma III will be very good. I have my reasons to believe it. They are:- 1. Michael Cretu got a number of criticisms for "Cross of Changes" for being not up to the first album. People criticized that second album is not as mysterious, magical and strong as the first album "MCMXC a.D". Michael is very concious of this matter as he was often asked about this in interviews. Michael will definitely try to make Enigma III as good as "MCMXC a.D" or maybe even better. 2. Michael Cretu always composed and produced his wife, Sandra's albums. But for Sandra's "Fading Shades" album, Michael let someone else to handle the job in his place. This is the first time it happened. For me, this shows that Michael is really in Enigma III and wants to put all his creativity in it. This also shows how Michael is serious about Enigma III. In other words, Michael is giving main priority and attention to Enigma III than anything else(even his wife album). 3. Since the release of "Cross of Changes", Michael has composed for almost anyone(except Maggie Reilly's song "Every single heartbeat" and Sandra's "First Lullaby"). He didn't produced or released any albums and CDs. It may be well true that he has reserved all his new ideas and creativity for Enigma III. Michael Cretu is indeed under heavy pressure. Being a big Michael Cretu fan for a long time, I know he will make Enigma III one of the best Enigma albums, if not "Best". I am 100% convince and sure that Enigma III will be very very good. I am looking forward to the officail announcement in April!!!!! I agree with Karen. I think African samples would be cool. But, I tend to prefer the instrumental music of enigma. Vocal samples are cool but they are becoming a cliche--almost everybody is using them now. It's time for Cretu to innovate. Maybe have animal samples like howling wolves or industrial samples from factory machines. Or, maybe create new sounds like Patrick O'Hearn did on his first two albums. He would make percussive samples by hitting a washing machine with a hammer. Then he would modify the sound and add tons of effects to it thereby creating new percussion sounds. Another avenue that enigma could explore would be middle eastern music. In his first two CDs, enigma gave us little tastes of middle eastern music which I thought sounded great. I would like to see enigma write in that style more. One thing I would like enigma to do is to not use the pan flute so much. Yes, it is a good lead sound but it is time to move on. I hope I have helped to stimulate new avenues to discuss in the music of enigma. Peter C. Geisheker "Consider the Daffodil. Anyone out there?? (fwd) To: Enigma@yoyo.cc.monash.edu.au I think the Joar is right that they should try something besides the Heavenly Motif! I think that it would be nice to see some more Native American samples in the music of Enigma. I am a Navajo and I just love to hear a few of the things that Native American Enigma wannabes try out with the Native American samples. I think that a new lead instead of the pan flute thing could be to use the Native American flute. It has the same qualities as the pan flute, but it also has a very distinct sound and character. I would really like to see Micheal Cretu use the Native American approach. I really like what Deep Forest did on Cafe Europa, but the representation of the Native American samples were not very heavily used. If Micheal were to ask me to help him with an album, my theme would be to use Native American samples. Can't wait to hear the new album later this year!! See ya! The holiday also gave me the opportunity to do 2 things: shop for CDs in Europe (of which I bought plenty) and to meet Enigma's manager face to face. Of particular interest to particular members of this list is that I found THREE copies of Gregorian's "Sadisfaction" which I have bought on behalf of interested members on this list since I already own a copy. Knowing that the new "ENIGMA" album is coming soon. As we all know, Michael Cretu involves with Sandra, Enigma, Moti Special, Hubert Kah, Angel,....etc. I found out lately that Michael also involves with the German singer "Maggie Reilly". Not only Michael Cretu, but also the men behind Sandra's albums such as Hubert Kemmler, Armand Volker and Hirschburger are involved in Maggie Reilly's album. As far as Michael Cretu is concerned, he composed one song called "Every single heartbeat" for Maggie Reilly. That song appears in the album called "Minight Sun". You can find Michael's fineness in that song, although it sounds like Sandra's songs. Maggie reilly has two albums and they sounds a bit like Sandra's ones. And there is a homepage that I found out recently called SFC(Sandra Fan Connection). It is mainly about Sandra but you can also find things about Michael and Enigma. They have a list of all the artists involved with Michael Cretu (I even found the name of Boney M there:)). There is other DF stuff aside from the self-titled album and Boheme. There are two DF songs on the soundtrack for the movie Strange Days ("Coral Lounge" and "While the Earth sleeps". The latter is a DF/Peter Gabriel production - awesome!). There is also another CD by Michel Sanchez (one of the DF guys) called "Windows" (Only available in Europe, and not as good as the other DF stuff). There is also a CD called "Dao Dezi - World Mix Album" which is a coproduction of Eric Mouquet (the other DF guy) which some french guy called Denez Pringet. The style of this album is celtic/techno and has received mixed reviews on the EML. There is one IMO exceptional song on it called "Ti Eliz Iza" which is available as a single. Other groups similar to DF you might like: Beautiful World - In Existence Stone Edge (celtic ambient/techno) Sacred Spirit (ambient dance enhanced with original chants by Native Americans) Delerium - Semantic Spaces Mike Oldfield - The Songs of Distant Earth B-tribe - Fiesta Fatal and Suave, Suave (more similar to Enigma than DF, I'd call it an interesting cross between Enigma and Gypsy Kings) There are reviews of some of the above mentioned on the Enigma Home Page. It could have been re-done, but the more I listen to it, the more I'm convinced it's the Sandy Denny / Robert Plant vocal from 'Battle of Evermore' on Led Zeppelin 'Untitled' (or IV) Steve ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 3 Jan 1996 14:11:19 -0500 From: Jonathan Kalmes Subject: re:Yello To: "'Enigma List'" Cornelia, I've been a faithful follower of Yello for years. I mention them on this mailing list because many of us like the sound of Enigma and industrial music as well. Underworld's latest album, which came out in 1994, "dubnobasswithmyheadman" is the perfect example I have ever heard of an industrial/new age fusion. It doesn't really have lyrics per se, but the music combines the best elements of the new age and industrial genres. If you love Enigma and bands such as Kraftwerk, Pink Floyd, NIN, then buy this album; I give it three thumbs up. K.C. I'm new here. I have just one question for the moment. My girlfriend and I have had a discussion (almot a fight:) because of Return to Innoncence. I'm telling her than the female singer voice is doubled with her own whispers. She is arguing that it is a digital effect because the synchro sounds too perfect. I'm sure that what I hear are whispers. If you have good headphone, they are more obvious. They can also be heard in Age of Loneliness. I think I will need the author's words on this one. She won't be convinced if I just tell her "there is at least one hundrer persons in the Enigma mailing list who think that it's her, not a digital effect". It would have sounded differently if it has been a digital effect. I don't think it's possible to do the effect so well, anyway. (Hope this will get to Michel Cretu!) ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 05 Nov 1995 14:45:59 +0100 From: ymthan@iprolink.ch (Ye Min Than) Subject: Whispers on Return to Innocence To: Enigma@yoyo.cc.monash.edu.au Hi all, First of all before answering your question I'll like to say that the female voice on the song is that of Sandra. The whisper that you hear is been done by sound effects. Simply doubling the voice would not sound like that. You must also realize that Michael Cretu has a millions dollar buck high-tech studio at his villa in Ibiza island. I saw his studio in one TV interview and believe me it is "hyper" high-tech. His mixing table is very huge and it is C-shaped. Above it are three Mac computers running "Notator Logic". I am fully convinced that the "Whisper" you hear is done by digital effects... And You said: >It would have sounded >differently if it has been a digital effect. I don't think it's possible to >do the effect so well, anyway. (Hope this will get to Michel Cretu!) > Well, I'll say that if someone can do excellent effects as you said, it is surely Michael Cretu!!!!!!!!!!!
