To: enigma@yoyo.cc.monash.edu.au [A ponderous introduction, with a sunburst of adjectives follows...] I've been asked to forfeit the comfortable anonymity of the net and introduce myself to y'all. I am Greg Weiss, bio-organic chemist, chemical cell biologist, infobahn cruiser, and graduate student. This Sunday, at 8:34 am, I shall turn 24. My interest in Enigma is really cursory and possibly ephemeral. A friend recommended the MCM whatever disc a few months ago, and my collection includes both their albums. The better parts of my disc collection includes some ambient stuff (Deep Forest, United States of Ambience, Eno, Dead Can Dance, etc.), Pixies, Breeders, Tom Waits, Billie Holliday, and my fav' Cowboy Junkies. Research consumes my life, and Enigma sometimes provides the background. My near term work concerns a cure for ankylosing spondylitis, which I've designed. However, the goal is to understand how the immune system fights viral infection, with obvious implications for HIV, flu, etc. research. Enough about me! I plan to lurk, and hopefully enjoy some interesting insights from the fans. ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 19 Jul 1994 00:00:32 -0400 (EDT) From: "John N. I liked it a lot and picked up MCMXC a few months later. I liked it, except for being only 40 minutes. However, I didn't decide I wanted the CD single of sadeness until it was already discontinued (sometime in early 1992 I think), so it took a bit of searching to find it. OFTD is probably my favorite track on The Cross of Changes, so I'm partially biased towards it :). With everyone back at university or continuing on at work it's ashame to see this list so quiet at the moment. To keep you all updated: * Letters have been written to all the major record companies explaining the existence of this mailing list, and asking for future contact to be made so that we can have an accurate understanding of what Enigma products are being released and when. Each record company will also receive the FAQ in a type-setted form (ie - logos, headings, bold, underline, etc.) which will be placed on the yoyo FTP site soon. The letters with FAQ will be sent to the following companies: - EMI Australia (Melbourne) - EMI Australia (Sydney) - Virgin Germany - Virgin UK - Virgin US - Virgin Norway * A letter has been written from myself to Michael Cretu. The letter highlights the same information as in the letters to the record company, along with my personal thoughts on his music. The letter has urged Michael to add to, confirm, or correct any facts in the FAQ (which is also sent to him), and it is hoped he will notice the unanswered questions part of the FAQ which was recently added.... Finally the letter requests Michael to send a general message of reply to the mailing list should he so desire. All these letters will be printed and sent off next week (I have to get the finances together as it will add up to cost a bit of money). On other issues : * Is there any more information about when "Age of Loneliness" is coming out, and what tracks it will have on it? * Can someone from the US please send me the address of the MAJOR branch of Virgin Records in that country by private email? * Can someone from the UK please do likewise? * Any other product releases or gossip to report???? 8-] Take care all! Well this raises some interesting points!!!! * How accurate is Goldmine? I ask this because: - If "Carly's Song" was to be released in the UK it is likely to be a rerelease of the single which appeared in November 1993. This is of course unless Goldmine meant to say "Age of Loneliness (Carly's Song)" - "Out from the Deep" is not known to be released yet, unless our US friends can say otherwise * Could it be that repressings of old singles are being done? It seems unlikely given the bad performance of most of the things thus far (with the except of "Return to Innocence" in Europe and the US)..... John, it seems you are a subscriber to Goldmine, so it would be fantastic if you could mention any Enigma information in each edition as it comes out, either in summary like in this post, or by quoting directly from the magazine. As it stands, I am having some real problems getting ACCURATE information about Enigma releases - if the record companies keep in future contact this may be rectified, but in the mean time it's a confusing thing to work out what's being released! Not necessarily true. CD Europe bases their listings on what they find in catalogs, not on what they can actually get. I strongly recommend folks find somewhere else to order things like this. Ear/Rational Music (email ear-rational@xmission.com with CATALOG as the subject) usually charges $8.50-$9.50 for import singles, and they can probably get just about anything CD Europe can. -- Lazlo (lazlo@rt66.com) ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 6 Jul 1994 17:16:40 +1000 (EST) From: Gavin Stok Subject: Warning...
