Music

Some of the artists whose music I enjoy, listed in no particular order.

Jean-Michel Jarre

Jarre was the first artist I became a fan of, back in 1987. Favourite albums include Equinoxe, The Concerts In China, Zoolook and Chronologie, with Oxygene Part IV, Magnetic Fields Part 4, Ethnicolor and Calypso Part 2 being only some of the songs I like the most. In August 1993 I had the pleasure of attending his Wembley concert, which was part of the Europe In Concert tour. I'm also a collector of Jean-Michel Jarre, and I write for the UK fanzine Revolution, with a series called "In The Beginning" that looks at Jarre's pre-Oxygene releases, like La Cage, Deserted Palace and Hypnose.

Enigma

Enigma is another favourite, and I'm quite involved in Internet activities on the this artist; I have a web page which opened in August 1994, and I proposed and now administrate the Enigma mailing list which has been running since April 1994. Taken from my introductory message to the mailing list, here's how I got interested in Enigma.

Sandra

I've known about Sandra since 1985, when she had great success in Norway and the rest of Europe with (I'll Never Be) Maria Magdalena and In The Heat Of The Night. Not being a record-buyer at that time, I didn't really pick up on her music until 1994, when I found the compilation Ten On One (The Singles) in a record store. Having been exposed to the music of Paintings In Yellow earlier on by a friend, I decided to try this album. Gradually I got more albums by Sandra, and with Into A Secret Land I found an album full of joyful and energetic songs. This album remains one of my all-time favourite albums, and songs like Heaven Can Wait, Around My Heart and my favourite Sandra song We'll Be Together are excellent examples of well-crafted pop songs. Another album to highlight is Close To Seven from 1992, which contains beautiful music in the shape of Mirrored In Your Eyes and Seal It Forever, to mention two.

Vangelis

Vangelis has released a lot of albums over the years, exploring many different styles and types of music. I enjoy most of these, like L'Apocalypse Des Animaux, Heaven And Hell, Spiral (with the eternal To The Unknown Man), Mask, Direct (Metallic Rain is one of many fabulous songs here), The City and 1492 - Conquest Of Paradise.

Sunscreem

My first encounter with Sunscreem were as remixers of Jean-Michel Jarre's Chronologie Part 4 song, in May 1993. Of the remixes done of this track (others were done by Praga Kahn and Black Girl Rock), the Sunscreem remixes were the one I liked the least, so it is a bit ironic that I would come to love the group's recent album, Change Or Die.
